Red Kangaroo - Macropus rufus
The icon Red Kangaroo is one of the most recoginised Australian animals. There are no recognised sub species. This species exhibits sexual dismorphism not only in size but also in colour. Males being large animals usually red in colour and females a smaller animal compared to the male and are a blue-grey colour.
Red Kangaroos occur throughout all the mainland states through central Australia to the western coast of Western Australia. Size - males - head and body length 935-1400mm, tail length 710-1000mm and weight 22-92kg. Females - head and body length 745-1100mm, tail length 645-900mm and weight 17-39kg. You require an Advanced Licence to keep this species in Victoria.

Common Wallaroo (Euro) - Macropus robustus
There are four sub species of the Euro. M.r. robustus, Eastern Australia, QLD, NSW and north eastern Victoria. M.r. woodwardi, North Western Australia, Kimberly, WA and Arnhem land NT. M.r. Isabellinus, is restricted to Barrow Island, WA. M.r. erubescens, distrubution into most states of Australia excluding Victoria and Tasmania. Each sub species differs in physical colour and size.
Size - head and body length 1110-1985mm, tail length 535-900mm. Weight 7-60kg males. 6-28kg females. Euros live 8-12 years in captivity. You need an advance licence to keep this species in Victoria.

Kangaroo Island Kangaroo - M. fuliginosus. fuliginosus and Western Grey Kangaroo - Macropus fuliginosus
As it name suggests the Kangaroo Island kangaroo is from Kangroo Island. It is one of two subspecies of Macropus fuliginosus. It is a darker and stocker animal than the mainland animals M.f.melanops. The Western Grey, M.f.melanops occurs through South Western Australia into southern Queensland. Size - head and body length 945-2225mm, tail length 425-1000mm and weight 18-72kg males. 17-39kg females. KI’s live up to 8-12 years in captivity. You require an Advanced Licence to keep both these species/sub species in Victoria. Private keepers usually are keeping Kangaroo Island Kangroos.

Eastern Grey Kangaroo - Macropus giganteus
The eastern gry kangaroo is a common species occuring from Cape York QLD, through the eastern states and into Tasmainia. The range extends in small parts into South Australia. Size - head and body length 960-2300mm, tail length 445-1090mm and weight 19-85kg males. 17-42kg females. Eastern greys live up to 8-12 years in captivity. You require an Advanced Licence to keep this species in Victoria.
